Jetblack will be the first purpose designed and built jet powered landspeed record car in New Zealand. The car will go through an extensive aerodynamic testing programme and thorough analysis of its performance and strength carried out before the first steel is cut.

Jetblack is powered by a Rolls Royce Avon 206 engine with 11,250lb of thrust which is equal to about 22,000 horspower previously used in an RAF jet. The engine power is equivilient to 31 Formula 1 cars, 22 Bugatti Veyron's or over 200 family sized cars in terms of horsepower.

The frame of the car is to be made from New Zealand made steel. High strength aerospace frame construction design will ensure that the frame remains strong enough to withstand 1000km/h+ speeds but is light enough to allow fast accelaration. All the other components will be fitted within the frame.

The bodyshell will be made entirely from carbon-fibre. Modular sections will be used to allow for easy access to the car's vital components such as the engine, wheels and suspension system.
