What is Jetblack? |
| Jetblack is the name of the car being designed and built to break the current New Zealand and Australian landspeed records. | |
| 2. | How fast will Jetblack go? |
| The ultimate intended speed of Jetblack is 650mph. The theoretical top speed will be determined by a comprehensive aerodynamic study. | |
| 3. | What type of engine are you using? |
| Jetblack is powered by a Rolls Royce Avon 206. This comes from an English Electric Canberra bomber of the RAF. It produces 11,250lb of thrust which is roughly 22,000 horsepower and weighs about 1,300kg. | |
| 4. | Who holds the records you are trying to break? |

The current New Zealand landspeed record is held by Owen Evans. It stands at 216.385mph and was set on the 2nd June 1996 driving a Porsche 911 GT Le Mans Turbo.

On the 15th October 1997, Thrust SSC driven by Andy Green, was the first car ever to set a supersonic landspeed record at 763.035mph. The record was set on the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, USA. This is the most remarkable achievement in the entire history of the world landspeed record. The Thrust SSC website can still be viewed at www.thrustssc.com . |
